What's Poppin? - An Explosion Explained

P7 had a fantastic time over the past few weeks preparing a video for NUI Galway's ReelLIFE science competition. 

We wanted to make our experiment exciting, so we decided to make some alka-seltzer rockets. Pupils had great fun doing this in the classroom and some of our cannister lids even hit the roof! 

Once our explosions were over, we started to think about how we could explain what was happening during the experiment to people who were unfamiliar with it. To do this, we had to brush up on our knowledge of chemical reactions and the pH scale. 

We hope you enjoy our video and are able to see how and why this particular explosion happened.
