P2/3 The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark Art
Before Christmas the children in P2/3 listened to this wonderful story as part of their learning in the World Around Us. We decided to make our very own owls!
Step 1 - The children created their collage background by drawing and making swirling lines using different coloured oil pastels. We put classical music on in the background and the children had to create in time to the music. Some of the music was fast and other parts slow. The children enjoyed the craziness of going in different directions.
Step 2 - The children couldn't believe when Mrs B started to rip the pages of coloured pastel. They thought she had made a mistake but soon realised that these strips of paper would make the background of their art piece. The children got to it and loved stripping the paper, ensuring to make strips that weren't too small but also weren't too big. At the end we had a big tub full of different coloured strips, that everyone helped to make.
Step 3 - The children then began glueing down the strips of paper using PVA glue, ensuring they could no longer see the white background of the card.
Step 4 - Everyone was then given templates for the parts of their owl including two eyes, a nose and two ears. The children then followed Mrs B's directions to fill in and create the owl parts using different shades of oil pastel, smudging and outlining.
Step 5 - The final step involved glueing down the owl parts and voila! Have a look at their amazing creations below
