Money Problems in P4
4th Feb 2025
The children in P4 recently enjoyed developing their math skills using money.
The children learned about estimation and that making an educated guess can help when solving math problems.
They provided very good estimates for the amount of money contained in their jar (based on what they could see).
After confirming their estimates, they set about counting the coins to find the real total.
A variety of approaches were taken, some added mentally coin by coin, some grouped coins before adding and others tallied the various coins.
The magic total was £9.69, a total several groups achieved.
To finalise, the children evaluated the best method to complete the task and most agreed that grouping the coins before totalling each was the best approach.
