Instructions take Flight
Last week in Primary 4, children have continued exploring the instructional writing genre, focusing on key features such as imperative verbs, adverbs, and time conjunctions. After reviewing a set of instructions on making a paper bag kite, the children eagerly got to work, following the steps carefully to create their very own paper bag kites. With materials in hand, they cut, glued, and decorated, ensuring each step was completed in the correct order.
The excitement was great as they took their finished kites outside to test them, with smiles, laughter and fun in abundance with the joy of seeing their creations take flight.
Building on this, next week’s challenge will be to make masks. This time, the children will use their growing understanding of instructional writing to collaborate and select the most effective steps and wording to contribute to a set of modelled / shared instructions.
Perhaps these masks can even be linked to World Book Day, inspiring designs based on beloved literary characters.
