Famine in Fermanagh
P7 recently made the trip to Enniskillen Museum to learn about The Famine in our local area.
Pupils discussed what they already knew about The Famine with our guide, Catherine. We then looked at information from local sources such as newspaper reports from 1847! This helped us gain a better insight to what life was like at the time. We even got to see some interesting artefacts including a shoe with a mysterious story behind it!
We then went for a stroll around Enniskillen, stopping at a number of streets and locations which were of great significance during The Famine in Fermanagh. Our trip concluded with stops at the Workhouse and the Pauper's graveyard.
This was a very interesting trip which opened our eyes to the local impact of The Famine
