Cuilcagh Lakeland Lesson in P3/4
Today the children had an enjoyable experience for science week. Ben and Ian from Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark delivered a lesson about rock erosion.
Using a little tub, small rocks and some sugar cubes the children had to simulate what occurs on a river bed.
After vigorously shaking the tubs for one minute they had to remove a sugar cube. They repeated this process for four more rounds, removing another sugar cube at each interval.
At the end, they could see that the cubes gradually decreased in size the longer they were in the tub. The children also made the connection that the sugar dust was like sand and now they have a different appreciation of how a beach is formed.
Well done to everyone in P3/4
Thank you to Ben and Ian for providing an interesting lesson and developing our understanding of rock erosion.
